On May 24, 2018, the government of Burkina Faso announced that it would sever diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The decision ended 24 years of diplomatic ties between our two countries. During that period, Taiwan worked with Burkina Faso in areas including national development, public health, and the well-being of its people.

The decision came amid increasing pressure from China to reduce Taiwan’s international space.
